Employee efforts: supporting charities through diverse activities

11 July 2024

Our employees have been very busy in the past month, taking part in a wide range of events and activities to support excellent charities. We’d like to share a few of these with you.

On 26 June, Bob Kelly, our IT Director, was joined by Nick Leech Leech, who is an Independent Financial Adviser in our Personal Injury & Court of Protection (PICOP) team, and David Sullivan, Charlie Moorin, Joel Lightfoot and Alasdair Owens from our PICOP Administration team in our Bury office, as they took part in a ‘Longest Day Golf Challenge’.

Our intrepid golfers played four rounds of golf in one day at Marland Golf Club in Rochdale, starting at 6am and finishing at 9am. They were raising money for MacMillan Cancer Support, which is a charity close to all of their hearts.

On 13 June, Lewis McPhail, who is an Associate Independent Financial Adviser from our Edinburgh office, took part in a 5-day challenge, cycling 350 miles from Paris to Cologne. Lewis was raising money for the Lighthouse for Perth charity, which is dedicated to preventing suicide and self-harm. This has a very special meaning for Lewis, as one of his close friends very sadly took his own life earlier this year.

On 9 June, Jack Carter, who is an Associate Independent Financial Adviser in our Leeds office, completed the ‘Doko Challenge’ at Roundhay Park in Leeds to raise money for the Gurkha Welfare Trust. This involved running 5 kilometres carrying 15 kilograms of sand in a wicker basket. The money raised for this charity goes to providing financial, medical and water aid to the veterans, their families and communities in Nepal.

On 7 June, Charlie Head, who is an Independent Financial Adviser in our PICOP team based in London, took part in an ‘I’m a Celebrity’ challenge in aid of Crossroads Care Surrey, which supports unpaid carers in Surrey. The challenge was based on the well-known television show and Charlie took part in a series of challenges, including a reptile challenge, eating and drinking challenges and physical challenges.

On 14 June, Laura Garry, who is our Head of Risk and Compliance, and Jamie McNabb, who is a Private Client Administrator, both based in our Manchester office, separately completed The Wall. This is a 70-mile ultramarathon, which runs alongside Hadrian’s Wall, starting in Carlisle and finishing in Newcastle. Laura, running with her husband, completed the course in 24 hours and 16 minutes and raised money for the National Deaf Children’s Society, while Jamie came home in 21 hours and 30 minutes as he fundraised for Dementia UK.

Many congratulations to all of these colleagues for your great efforts in helping to raise money for some excellent causes.
