Rebecca Dorrian – Pankhurst Trust

11 September 2024
  • Share

We are really pleased that Rebecca Dorrian, who is one of our Corporate Advisers based from our Birmingham office, used a Chase de Vere Volunteering Day to do a presentation at the Pankhurst Trust.

The Pankhurst Trust incorporates Manchester Women’s Aid and supports survivors of domestic violence and abuse in Manchester.

We encourage our employees to offer their time and skills to work in their local communities or support charities, including giving them paid leave to undertake these activities.

Rebecca reached out to the Pankhurst Trust to find out whether there was anything she could do to support them. She subsequently held a presentation on basic family finances and creating budgets for an audience of women who have left abusive or violent relationships.

One of the areas that these ladies often struggle with is financial literacy, so Rebecca spent an hour with them going through a presentation on the basics of finances, how to set up a bank account, what credit and debit is, and they then discussed how to create a budget, before Rebecca gave some tips on saving money.

The session went very well. It was interactive, and stimulated a lot of talking with the women, and they also began sharing tips between themselves.

Rebecca continues, “I’m really pleased that I was able to use my skills as a Corporate Adviser, and some of the material we use for employee financial education sessions, to help the women at the Pankhurst Trust. They are at the start of the rest of their lives free from an abusive relationship, and the charity is really keen on supporting the women to make sure their journey is a positive one. I hope that I’ve helped them with that.”
